Okay. You’ve booked the Personality Portrait at my Fishtown photography studio and now you’re wondering… "What does my child even wear for this?" Good news — there isn't just one right answer. Think about how you want to use these images and go from there!

Option 1: Keep It Timeless

If you're hoping for classic portraits to hang on your wall, simple and timeless is always the way to go.

Choose solid, neutral colors like cream, white, beige, soft gray, muted blue, or earthy greens. Avoid large logos, busy patterns, neon colors, or character graphics so the focus stays on your child's expressions and personality.

Soft sweaters, linen shirts, simple dresses, overalls, or a classic tee all photograph beautifully. These timeless choices create images that will feel just as beautiful hanging on your walls in twenty years as they do today. You can view further recommendations here.

Option 2: Let Them Be Completely Themselves

Maybe your kiddo refuses to take off their dinosaur rain boots. Maybe they wear the same sparkly tutu three days a week, insist on their tractor sneakers, or have a favorite superhero shirt that's seen better days.

If that's them, there's something incredibly special about documenting it.

While these outfits may not be traditionally what I would recommend to clients, they tell a story about who your child is right now. And someday, you'll smile remembering that phase when those boots went everywhere or that shirt was worn until it almost fell apart.

This approach tends to work especially well for older toddlers and children who have started developing their own sense of style and strong opinions about what they wear.
