A Rittenhouse Square Family Session in Philadelphia
Philadelphia Family Photos That Feel Like You
Your family photos don’t have to happen somewhere extraordinary to be meaningful. Sometimes, the best location is simply somewhere that feels like you.
For this Philadelphia family session, we spent the evening wandering through Rittenhouse Square with Justin, Kelsey, Arthur, and Jane. They’re a true Philly family — longtime residents who love good food, coffee, music, parks, and all the little things that make city life feel like home.
So instead of choosing a location just because it photographs well, we chose a place that felt familiar and gave their kids plenty of room to simply be themselves.
We wandered through the park, played in the grass, climbed around the trees, checked out a very cool lion statue, and let the kids take the lead. At the end of their session, because ending a summer evening with ice cream felt very on-brand for this family, we left the park, cracked open their cooler, and had some ice cream cones on a nearby stoop.
Why I Love Documentary Family Sessions
That’s what I love about sessions like this. There are a few photos where everyone is looking at the camera, but those aren’t the ones I love most. I want to remember Arthur being completely and unapologetically himself. Jane’s quiet little expressions. The way Justin and Kelsey look at each other. The chaos, the laughter, the movement, and all the small pieces of their family that might otherwise be easy to forget.
If your family spends weekends walking through the city, grabbing coffee, visiting parks, getting ice cream, or just wandering around your neighborhood, your family session can look like this too.
You don't have to create a version of your family for your photos. We can photograph the one that already exists.
For families looking for a Philadelphia family photographer, Rittenhouse Square is just one of the many places we can make a session feel natural, personal, and completely your own. Reach out to me to book your session!
