A Yale Peabody Museum Wedding | Elizabeth & Shawn

Some wedding venues are beautiful. Others are unforgettable. Elizabeth and Shawn’s wedding at Yale University managed to be both.

After photographing their engagement session in New York City, I was especially excited to reunite with Shawn and Elizabeth in New Haven for a wedding day that brought together classic elegance, university history, and one very unexpected reception setting: a natural history museum filled with dinosaurs.

A Classic Yale University Wedding at Battell Chapel

Elizabeth and Shawn exchanged vows at Battell Chapel, a historic chapel on Yale’s Old Campus known for its Gothic Revival architecture and beautiful stained glass. Built in the 1870s, the chapel provided a timeless setting for their ceremony, perfectly complementing the traditional elegance of the day.

There was something especially fitting about celebrating their marriage at a place that had already been part of their story. After ten years together, beginning as high school bandmates, Elizabeth and Shawn were returning to a familiar place to mark a new milestone.

Their wedding felt like a natural extension of who they are: thoughtful, classic, and full of personality.

A Yale Peabody Museum Wedding Reception Among Dinosaurs

If you have ever imagined a wedding reception somewhere completely unexpected, let this be your inspiration.

Elizabeth and Shawn celebrated their reception at the Yale Peabody Museum, with dinner in the Central Gallery and cocktail hour and dancing in Burke Hall of Dinosaurs. Yes, that means their guests enjoyed an evening of dinner, drinks, and dancing inside a dinosaur museum.

Even more exciting, their celebration was the first wedding reception hosted at the museum, making the day especially memorable.

The museum offered a remarkable contrast to the traditional chapel ceremony. Its grand galleries, towering dinosaur skeletons, and fascinating exhibits created an atmosphere that was both sophisticated and wonderfully unconventional. Rather than choosing a traditional ballroom, Elizabeth and Shawn embraced a venue that made their wedding feel entirely their own.

For couples searching for a unique wedding venue in Connecticut, the Yale Peabody Museum is an extraordinary example of how a meaningful location can become part of the experience itself.

Elegant Details and a Celebration Full of Personality

One of my favorite details was the bridesmaids' black dresses. Against the historic Yale setting, the classic color palette felt timeless and understated, allowing the architecture and museum surroundings to take center stage.

And then there were the apple cider donuts served as a late-night treat. It was such a fun seasonal touch for their fall wedding, bringing a little warmth and New England charm to the celebration.

Planning a Wedding at the Yale Peabody Museum?

Elizabeth and Shawn’s wedding was a reminder that your venue can do so much more than provide a backdrop. It can tell a story, reflect your history, and give your guests an experience they will remember long after the last dance.

From the historic beauty of Battell Chapel to an unforgettable evening inside the Yale Peabody Museum, their wedding brought together two sides of Yale in a way that felt both meaningful and unexpected.

If you are planning a wedding at the Yale Peabody Museum, Battell Chapel, or another historic New Haven venue, I would love to document the thoughtful details, the people who make your day meaningful, and the moments you will want to return to for years to come.
